ByteSnap Unveils Low Power Monitoring for Rail Industry
Features Rugged Data Logger
- Fully submersible rugged data logger debuts at Railtex 2015
- Custom electronic design team exhibits at Railtex 2015 on stand V90
ByteSnap Design, an embedded electronics consultancy with strong rail industry expertise, will unveil its high-reliability, low-power remedy to the rail industry’s remote monitoring headache at Railtex 2015. The company will also be highlighting its experience within the electronic display and diagnostics sectors.
As the rail industry undergoes the largest expansion for over a century, rail companies are looking for innovative ways to collect and transmit data about every section of line to ensure highest levels of safety, security and reliability.
ByteSnap custom designs low-power wireless monitoring equipment that can be installed in remote locations to transmit information in real time over long distances. Using electronics expertise combined with experience in developing rugged devices, the ByteSnap team will showcase a remote monitoring station featuring a weather station, PIR and several terminals for additional customisation options, such as inclinometers, vibration sensors and energy metering.
The demonstration consists of two units; a remote monitoring station and a rugged waterproof data logger. The solar-powered station transmits weather data via a 10 kilometre line of sight low-power radio link.
“The practical applications for and benefits to rail infrastructure maintenance are substantial”, says Dunstan Power, Director of ByteSnap Design. “Collecting of data and transmitting this in real time is critical for monitoring signalling track circuits, cable theft, also other examples such as monitoring earthworks and bridge bash incidents”.
The submersible rugged data logger is powered by a 12V supply, runs on Windows CE and communicates with a display showing information in real time being received from the remote monitoring station.
Mr Power added: “We believe our example of a very low-power remote monitoring system has many important elements in solving these and other monitoring problems, whilst in the process demonstrating our expertise in designing bespoke solutions.”
ByteSnap will also be highlighting work for electronic display manufacturer Infotec. The embedded design consultancy provided hardware and software design work for their new range of LCD/TFT panels. ByteSnap has also worked on diagnostic products for Findlay Irvine and data logging equipment for another major rail provider.
The first time exhibitor will be at the NEC on 12-14 May at Railtex, the UK’s largest exhibition for the rail industry.
The best way to capture the full potential of the innovation is to come and see ByteSnap at Stand V90 at Railtex 2015 at the NEC.
