Smart Metering Innovation from Electronic Design Company ByteSnap at NEW

See ByteSnap at Stand 7

For the first time in the UK, ByteSnap Design is presenting the first-ever ZigBee Smart Energy module to combine metering and control in a single, low-power platform. The module will be on show at National Electronics Week (NEW) at the NEC, measuring power consumption and controlling the micro-Scalextric bicycles via a ZigBee wireless network (using the ZigBee Smart Energy profile).

Mini-charging

On stand 7, the electronic design company will also be showing its smart metering technology, used in a new installation of electric vehicle charging posts in London this year.

In addition, ByteSnap will be highlighting two projects where ByteSnap has developed low-power systems for animal tracking. The first is a lightweight remote release device for monitoring soaring birds and was used recently to track condors in South America. The second is a high-performance, low-power signal processing module used in an offshore marine mammal monitor.

Condor-in-flight

For marine mammal monitoring, ByteSnap Design and Direct Insight developed a signal processor (based on ARM devices) to monitor signals in the range of 10Hz (for whales) to 150 kHz (for some porpoises) as part of the PAMBuoy project. The PAMBuoy eliminates the need for manual observation of marine mammals around offshore construction sites (for example, near wind farm construction in the North Sea).

Buoy

Such sites are often required to cease operations when mammals are in the vicinity. With PAMBuoy, operations can continue even in poor visibility because the PAMBuoy can identify the presence of mammals even where visual techniques cannot (e.g. in poor weather conditions).

Also at NEW, ByteSnap Design is showcasing its SnapUI customisation tool, which simplifies the user interface design process for low-power, high-performance devices and was recently used in Geotech’s new 5000 series of landfill and biogas analysers. The 5000 series are the first approved for Zone 01. These analysers incorporate many of the features commonly associated with smartphones and PDAs, making gas measurement and analysis simpler, safer and faster than before.
