VIGIL, an innovate UK funded consortium has rolled out a new control platform for Vehicle-to-Grid/Building (V2G/V2B) systems and distribution networks.
With just weeks to go, five of our embedded design consultants have ditched their regular, not-to-be-messed-with mid morning sugar hit and kicked it up a notch in the gym. Doughnuts dumped, biscuits banished, chocs chucked out. Why? Well, it's part of their preparations for a gruelling 10,000m mud run next month to raise money for charity. ByteSnap Wolf Dean burns it up on our office treadmill Charity Wolf Run - The Motivation Technical Manager Roland came up with the idea to take on the Wolf Run after discovering CiCRA - the Crohn's in Childhood Research Association - which supports with children suffering from Inflammatory Bowel Disease. "There are thousands of young people in the UK suffering so much with IBD - and there's a real lack of support and [...]
ByteSnap's Linux User Interface Development Framework and Remote Monitoring System at L22 It's been a busy, brisk start to the Electronic Design Show for ByteSnap Design. On the ByteSnap stand - L22 - yesterday we had a very good response to the launch of our new, Linux-based SnapUI user interface development tool. Following on the success of SnapUI for Windows CE, this iteration features several enhancements to the product development process for Linux developers, including low power, OpenGL hardware acceleration and rendering capability of 60 fps full HD. Also on display - ByteSnap's LoRa demonstration; a 10km remote monitor which sends information to a ruggedized, fully submersible data logger. With various I/O terminals, the remote monitoring system is fully customisable, and has a minimum battery life of five [...]
ByteSnap Design is delighted to have made the finals of two prestigious industry competitions; this year's British Engineering Excellence Awards (BEEAs) and the Elektras (European Electronic Industry Awards), in extremely competitive, high-calibre fields. The embedded electronic consultants are up for the BEEAs Consultancy of the Year accolade, which they won in 2013. "We are thrilled to be recognised in this way by the industry," said ByteSnap Director Dunstan Power. "It's the fourth year in a row we've been named finalists at the BEEAs. And it's great to have also made the shortlist at the Elektras for Design Team of the Year - which we won in 2011. "To reach the finals of these awards is in itself an achievement; the bar is continually being raised with evolving innovation and [...]
ByteSnap Design will be showcasing its latest innovative projects, and discussing industry developments and trends at the UK's premier trade exhibition for electronic design, EDS 2015, in October. Organisers are bracing themselves for their biggest ever show, and are expecting record visitor numbers. Here's a sneak peak at some of what you'll see from ByteSnap on Stand L22... New SnapUI Aids Faster Prototyping We'll be launching the newest release of SnapUI - our user interface development framework - at the Electronic Design Show, at Coventry's Ricoh Arena. It's a great opportunity for you to get a closer look at this lightweight user interface (UI) customisation tool, which has been built to simplify the Linux design process. This latest upgrade offers new performance improvements including: Open GL hardware acceleration smaller [...]
Catch our embedded electronic designers caught up in some trade show time travel - in this whistlestop tour of our stand at Railtex 2015. With remote monitoring a primary concern for the rail industry, we displayed our low power remote monitoring station and 10km data logger at last month’s rail exhibition, at Birmingham’s NEC. Watch 4 days in just over 1 minute It was our first time attending Railtex 2015 - the UK's biggest rail show - so a big thank you to the visitors and customers who stopped by our stand. Enjoy the video!
ByteSnap will unveil a high reliability, low power remedy to the rail industry’s remote monitoring headache at Railtex 2015 in May. Custom Electronic Design The demonstration consists of two units; a remote monitoring station and a rugged waterproof data logger. The solar-powered station transmits weather data via a 10 kilometre low-power radio link. The practical applications for and benefits to rail infrastructure maintenance are substantial. Low Power Monitoring Director Dunstan Power said, “We see that low power monitoring equipment, which can be installed in remote locations transmitting information in real time over long distances, is vital to addressing reliability requirements of the rail industry. "We design bespoke solutions for customers; this is just an example of our expertise in rugged, very low power designs that can be adapted for [...]

Despite the rather cloudy Midland skies, the excited ByteSnap team managed to capture the much-anticipated UK eclipse in its various guises today. At our offices in South Birmingham, our electronic design engineers experienced the phenomenon for about an hour and a half from around 8.30am this morning. As well as wheeling out our thermal imaging camera (normally used for debugging) for the occasion, we also managed to snap some great images from other parts of the city. Our engineers experimented with a number of methods to see the eclipse (all of them safe, of course!!) from a hastily rustled-up pinhole camera, to a home-made binocular projector…with varying degrees of success as you can see from our gallery. Enjoy! [FinalTilesGallery id='1']
ByteSnap's Embedded Hardware Design shown on BBC National News ByteSnap Design was featured right at the beginning of the lead news report on the 10 O'Clock news programme last night. The story, by Robert Peston, was about the latest UK job figures. ByteSnap was featured as a company toughing out the gnarly economic climate and continuing to grow. Picture Courtesy BBC News Click on the picture below to see us in the BBC report...there're some cool close ups of our engineers working on embedded hardware design. It's about 55 seconds into the recording: Graeme said it was surreal to hear his voice coming out of his flatscreen TV! (And his radio...ByteSnap's economic buoyancy also featured on last night's Six O'Clock News on BBC Radio 4.) Here at ByteSnap we're always [...]
